The research, analysis and design activities on the development of practical manuals in support of the fishermen of Pilot Project “Measures to support small-scale fisheries“ are now completed. They present a study of the existing policies, legislation, management and institutional arrangements aiming to clarify the contribution, appropriateness and significance of the small-scale fisheries sector in the national economy as a means of livelihood and a source of earning a living and exploration of the management approaches to the small-scale fishing sector. Issues related to the fishing and sales practices in the Black Sea region are examined. Suggestions and recommendations are included for the future development of sustainable fisheries, support of the coastal fishing communities with specific ideas for diversification of their activities and encouraging them to preserve the natural resources. |
The manuals feature best practices and analyses of the small-scale fisheries sector’s representation and involvement in decision making, and its future role in the Consultative Council for the Black Sea region. There is a focus on the economic viability, the sources of income, the wellbeing, the preservation and management of the marine resources, the access and rights and the management of small-scale fisheries. A study was made of the favourable and limiting factors for women in the decision making and/or occupying management positions in the small-scale fisheries sector. Opportunities provided by the maritime and fisheries programmes and other EU funds are presented, along with advice how to start activity in the small-scale fisheries sector. The topics related to the future of the marine sector are analysed – the Blue Economy and Blue Growth that define the sustainable economy development of the oceans and seas and have turned into a policy driver, especially in the European Union. |
The practical manuals can be found on the project site in the Publications section. They will be presented to the participants and disseminated among the stakeholders at the forthcoming final project conference in October. |
