The European Black Sea Fishermen’s Association has received an invitation to participate in the Small-Scale Fisheries Summit in Rome, Italy

The European Black Sea Fishermen’s Association has received an invitation to participate in the Small-Scale Fisheries Summit, which will take place on 2-4 September 2022 in Rome, Italy. It is organized by IPC Working Group on Fisheries, the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM), via the Mediterranean Friends of SSF) and the SSF Hub, and with the support of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.

In the context of the International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture (IYAFA), the Small-Scale Fisheries Summit represents an opportunity to promote dialogue among small-scale fisheries actors, key partners and decision-makers in advance of the FAO Committee on Fisheries (COFI).

The SSF Summit will take place over the course of two days, as follows:

  • 2 September 2022

Led by the  IPC Working Group on Fisheries, this day will be an opportunity for invited representatives of small-scale fisheries organizations from around the world (both IPC members and non-members) to meet and engage in dialogue.

 

  • 3 September 2022 

This day will be open to small-scale fisheries organizations, civil society and other relevant stakeholders. It will host a series of sessions to share experiences, good practices and new ideas for supporting sustainable small-scale fisheries around the world.

  • 4 September 2022 

Space will be provided in the morning of Day 3 to small-scale fisheries stakeholders to hold informal bilateral and preparatory meetings in advance of COFI. In the afternoon, at 4:30 pm, conclusions from the SSF Summit will be shared, followed by a dialogue and a reception at 6:30 pm. In addition to the SSF stakeholders present on Day 1 and 2, the afternoon events will be open to COFI delegations, providing space for informal dialogue and exchange.
