The ninth meeting of the Working Group on the Black Sea (WGBS) of the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations is held.

From 28 to 30 July 2021, the President of the European Black Sea Fishermen‘s Association, Dr. Dimitrina Kostova, will participate in the ninth meeting of the Working Group about the Black Sea (WGBS) of the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM) and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The forum will report on progress in research programs, amateur fishing and the implementation of the Regional Action Plan for small-scale fishing in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea (RPOA-SSF). Pilot studies on recreational fishing and major species of interest for data collection will be presented. There will also be a review of the state of fishing, including the state of stocks and vulnerable species, as well as the management of Black Sea fishery . Among the topics of the working group are:

 

  • Additional advice on the interaction between fisheries and marine ecosystems and the surrounding world;

 

  • Problems with by-catches of cetaceans in the Black Sea;

 

 

  • Sturgeon conservation actions in the Black Sea and Danube basins;

 

  • Possible future proposals for fisheries management, etc .;

 

 

  • WGBS Work Plan for 2021-2023

 

The meeting of the Working Group will end with the formulation of advice on living marine resources and fisheries management and the adoption of conclusions and recommendations.
