The European Association of Fishermen at the Black Sea will participate in a meeting of Working Group No 1 “Internal and External Co-operation and Social Effects of Black Sea Fisheries” of the Consultative Council for the Black Sea to be held on 21 November in Varna. Mr Maris Stulgis, EC Commissioner for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, will present the EU’s marine waste prospects in an EU context outlining the pollution problem of fishing gear. Fisheries waste will be discussed by an overview of some observations on the Bulgarian and Romanian Black Sea coasts.

The Working Group will further work on identifying the sources and types of marine waste from the fishing industry and will identify measures to reduce them.

There are 10 members in Workgroup No 1  – 5 representatives from Bulgaria and 5 from Romania, this being the third session since the beginning of this year.

Earlier this week, from 19 to 20 November, the Association will take part in the General Assembly of the Black Sea Consultative Council, which is expected to elect a new chairman with a 3-year mandate.
