ROUNDTABLE ON THE RESULTS OF A EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT PILOT PROJECT

The Round Table in the Estonian town of Tallinn, which was start up yesterday on 12 October 2017, was officially opened by a speech by Karmenu Vella, Commissioner with Maltese roots of the Directorate for Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries to the European Union.

In topics was covered all key points in the sector, from aquaculture systems research facilities, through the investments in fish processing for product innovation, ways to supporting increased fish consumption, aspects related to both kind conservation, the species and environment, the problem of waste disposal, considerable attention has also been paid to the role of women in the sector and the fact that they are still almost invisible, although we are already in the 21st century.

On the second day (today – 13.10.2017), the afternoon part of the program is dedicated to pilot projects, such as our “Support Measures for Small-Scale Fishing”. Moderator of this part of the program was V. Veits and rapporteur: Evangelia Georgitsi, both of them from the DG Mare. Our representative, from SP CONSULT BG Ltd, Evelina Doseva, has prepared a short report to the “Increasing awareness and Small-Scale Fisheries’ role in future policy-making decisions in the Black Sea”.

The atmosphere of meeting is kindly, the reported results so far are excellent and the outlined future frames are optimistic.
